FARMINGTON — Summer Fest 2016 kicks off with festivities in Meetinghouse Park on Friday, July 22, in downtown Farmington.
A knoll behind the memorial board to the side of the gazebo will serve as a performance area dubbed “The Magic Carpet Stage.” This will also serve as a platform for children’s activities and entertainment on Saturday.
At 4 p.m. Friday, Marcel Chamby and “Old Gold” will play classic rock and blues tunes. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on.
There will be a food court set up in the old courthouse parking lot, across the street at the corner of Main and Church streets. Food will be sold until 9 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday.
At 5 p.m. Friday, Sue Joes will host a trivia contest, “So You Think You Know Farmington.” There will be several trivia questions and prizes for the winning answers.
At 6 p.m. Friday, Farmington’s Got Talent will take place. The talent show is open to all ages from 1 to 100. Acts are limited to five minutes. Registration forms are available at Minikins, 218 Broadway. There will be a sound system with microphone and a guitar player, if desired.
Judges include state Sen. Tom Savillo, R-Wilton, Regional School Unit 9 Superintendent Tom Ward, and Lorna Niedner, vice president of lending and main office manager at Franklin Savings Bank.
Criteria is based on overall performance, audience response, stage appearance, originality, and personality. Those with the highest combined scores in different age categories will win prizes.
At 7:30 p.m., The Sunday Project will perform a concert. The group is an eight-piece combo/ensemble from the Skowhegan area. The group plays mainly old swing music from the Big Band era, and old standards such as “Surfing, USA.’ More information is available at www.facebook.com/SundayProjectJazz.
