LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women at 97 Blake St. has received a $4,688 grant from the Androscoggin County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
The money will provide a new website and expand social media, marketing and networking capacity at the center. It also includes support for relevant skills training for the center’s board and staff.
“This grant in turn will support the center’s increasing efforts to fully fund the current day program and future expansion.” said Klara Tammany, executive director. “The new project, called Sophia’s House, will create long-term … community-based living and recovery support for women survivors of trauma.”
The Maine Community Foundation works with donors and other partners to improve the quality of life for all Maine people.
The center also recently received:
* $10,000 grant through the Direct Services Grant Program of the John T. Gorman Foundation for general operating support;
* $6,800 from the Episcopal Diocese of Maine for development of Sophia’s House and a related small social enterprise;
* $2,481 grant from the Simmons Foundation for the monthly Art Van art therapy program at the center; and
* $2,000 from the Bingham Project to explore and begin using research into Adverse Childhood Experiences.
The center is a sacred and safe place that supports and empowers women. It offers warm hospitality, compassionate listening, personal and spiritual guidance that is respectful of all faith traditions.
