1934 – 2016
NORWAY — Sidney Charlotte Murphy was born to Benjamin and Marie Greenberg in Boston, Mass. on Aug. 15, 1934. She passed quietly at Stephens Memorial Hospital on July 12, 2016 at 7:34 p.m.
She was a graduate of Revere High School in Massachusetts. Sidney married her husband, Frank S. Murphy, in 1955 and moved to Bethel.
Sidney was a longtime caregiver and spent numerous years devoted to volunteering for the Maine Veterans’ Home, where she received many certificates of appreciation for her service.
A devoted mother, grandmother and wife, her life was filled with caring not only for her immediate family but also for many others who had transitioned to the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris. Her caring attitude, sense of community and sense of humor touched everyone she knew.
Survivors include her son, Dean and his wife, Victoria Murphy, of Montezuma, Costa Rica; her brother, Earle Greenberg of Virginia; and grandchildren, Chandra Bailey of Portland and August Murphy of Phoenix, Ariz. She also has numerous nieces and nephews.
Sidney was predeceased by her husband, Frank S. Murphy; her sons, Michael Anthony and Danny Paul Murphy; brothers, Frank and Paul Greenberg; and sister, Rose Armstrong.
