PARIS — You’ve heard of people asking for help to find their lost dog or cat.

This time, police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a dinosaur.

The Norway-Paris Fish & Game Association said its beloved dinosaur — in reality, an archery target — has gone missing.

Paris police are trying to track its whereabouts. The dinosaur, believed to be a velociraptor, was last seen near its hunting grounds at Norway-Paris Fish and Game Association on Buckfield Road last fall.

The story was first reported by WMTW.

The hard-packed foam target, which was used to teach children archery, is about 4 feet tall and weighs about 100 pounds, Paris Police Detective Michael Dailey said.

Replacements run about $800.

“The Rinehart Targets Velociraptor lets you go back millions of years to hunt one of the most deadly predators of all time,” an online description of the product reads.

Mike Bailey, a director with the association, said he noticed the target missing last fall but thought another member had taken it home over winter. After attempts to locate it failed, he contacted police Tuesday.

Sylvia Bosse, the association’s president, said the club is pinching its pennies to build a target range and can’t afford to replace the dinosaur, which children love.

“We thought it was a prank and somebody would bring it back,” Bosse said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to notify authorities at the Oxford County Regional Communications Center at 207-743-9554.
