BANGOR (AP) — As part of the University of Maine System’s proposed shift to a new pricing model, students at the University of Southern Maine and three other campuses would have to pay a one-time tuition increase.
The Portland Press Herald reported (http://bit.ly/2aq04UG ) each of the seven campuses in the system currently charges its own tuition, but UMaine system trustees are proposing three price tiers for public universities in the state.
The University of Maine’s flagship campus in Orono would start as the highest, with slightly lower tuition for the system’s Farmington campus and USM. The least expensive tuition would be for the remaining four campuses.
Trustees are scheduled to vote on the proposal in September. Officials say the tuition changes would not take effect until the 2017-18 academic year.
