RANGELEY — The Oquossoc Union Church, known as the Log Church, is celebrating its centennial anniversary this summer.

This summer’s celebration will consist of the following events:

Sunday, Aug. 7: An old-fashioned hymn sing at the church at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet supper at the Gingerbread House at 6 p.m. Cost is $20 per person.

Sunday, Aug. 21: A special centennial service at the church at 9 a.m. There will be a festival at Bald Mountain Camps from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be music and family entertainment, followed by a chicken barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce or at the church on Sundays.

Sunday, Aug. 28: The final service of the season at 9 a.m. Afterward, a drawing will be held for a handmade quilt created and donated by Cindy Dornemann and Ruth Berry, longtime residents on Mooselookmeguntic Lake.

Sunday services throughout the summer will include historical moments and remembrances. Visitors are invited to share special memories, photos or memorabilia.

The church began as an outgrowth of a Sunday school established in the Oquossoc schoolhouse during the summer of 1915.

In the 1950s, members decided to engage a vacationing minister to hold Sunday services. Now the Rev. Tony MacNaughton, former pastor of Hildale Park Presbyterian Church in Cedar Knolls, N.J., serves as pastor.

The church holds non-denominational services at 9 a.m. Sundays from late June through August. All visitors are welcome.
