LEWISTON — Police are investigating a robbery at The Vault on Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Adam Higgins said a call came in to police reporting the robbery at 2:53 p.m. The high-end wine shop at 84 Lisbon St., adjacent to Dufresne Plaza and across the street from the District Court building, was open at the time.

Police could be seen still gathering evidence hours later.

“We’re right in the middle of it right now,” Higgins said late Saturday night. “We’re trying to develop a suspect right now, but we do not have a lead as to who this is as of right now.”

On The Vault’s Facebook page, owner Keith Tannenbaum said that the perpetrator “brutally assaulted the employee working at the time. The employee was badly injured, and is now resting.”

“I have owned The Vault for one month, and I am honored to be a part of the growth on Lisbon Street,” he wrote. “Today’s incident is sad and unfortunate, but it is not indicative of all the good happening in our neighborhood.

“Thank you to the Lewiston Police for their work today. And to the bad man who injured a good person today for next to nothing, I can only hope that no one else suffers at your hand again.”

Higgins declined to release any additional information, citing the active investigation.
