JAY — Police are investigating a burglary at Howie’s Welding & Fabrication Inc. on Main Street that occurred between Monday night and Tuesday morning during which an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen.

There was forced entry into the building that houses the steel fabrication and welding operation, Police Chief Richard Caton IV said. The building also includes a store where industrial supplies are sold.

The cash register was pried open and money was taken, he said.

An employee opening the shop Tuesday morning reported the burglary at about 7 a.m.

Sgt. Russell Adams and Caton responded to the call.

The investigation is ongoing. Evidence was collected at the scene and will be analyzed, Caton said.
