I have always enjoyed and agreed with the sentiments in letters from Ellen Field. Her latest (July 19), “Religious intolerance,” describes exactly how I have felt for many years about the constant attacks on others by groups of the religious right. They ask others to change their lives to please and satisfy their religion, paying no attention to the religions of those others or how changes would affect them.

Field wrote, “Everyone must obey state and federal laws, but religious beliefs are not laws.”

Opinions about Planned Parenthood, the abortion issue and same-sex marriage are private. Interfering in other people’s legitimate affairs is just plain wrong.

As for Donald Trump — I see a self-centered bully with no government experience or knowledge about running a government as big and complicated as the U.S. If he loves this country so much, why are his factories in other countries? Taking advantage of cheap labor, perhaps?

Hillary Clinton could become a really good president.
