OTISFIELD — Town Clerk Sharon Matthews wants her townspeople talent to shine.
On Saturday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the doors of the Otisfield Community Hall, 292 State Route 121, will be opened for a resident business showcase to show off local businesses that are located within town.
“It is open to the public to get a taste for our quaint town and the people who live here,” she said.
The idea came to her as she began to create a business directory of local businesses for the town’s webpage at www.otisfieldme.gov/Pages/Town%20Businesses%20&%20Accomodations.
“I offer this opportunity for Otisfield landowners because I’m always amazed when interacting with customers at the counter learning things I never knew about them – their talents, hobbies, etc.,” Matthews explained.
The showcase offers an opportunity for the folks in Otisfield who have a small business, product or service to have a day of free advertising to get the word out, she said. Local businesses already on the webpage include quilts, wood crafts, fly fishing, photography and much more.
“It is a perfect time to meet neighbors and network and promote business for the local economy,” Matthews said.
Matthews said there is a wide variety of vendors including photography, solar power supplier, beautiful burnt wood and stained picnic tables, landscaper, timber framing contractor, uniquely built-to-order solariums, electrical and generator work, consultant work, event planning and floral design, iron forged original gifts, wire sculpted creations, jewelry designer pieces, oil paintings , braided rugs, original yarn crafts, all occasion gifts-this & that.
“Pretty much you name it. A lot of talent in this town,” Matthews said.
Matthews said the showcase will be convenient for new residents and summer people to learn where they can go to get a gift or service.
“Why go elsewhere when it may be close at home?” she asked.
The event is being sponsored by Tractor Supply, Lee Auto of Norway, Oxford Casino, Parkside Variety, Maurice’s Restaurant, Park Street Press, BJ’s Wholesale of Auburn and others, and there will be raffles.
Raffle tickets for great prizes on sale at the door. $1 each or six for $5.
Anyone who would like more information should contact Matthews at the Town Office at 207-539-2664. She will also be setting up after 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 5 at the Community Hall.
“Our towns people are all welcome to participate in this free day of advertising to ‘show their stuff!'” she said.
Money raised will be used for the Community Hall Fund to make the hall available year round.
Much work has been done on the hall, which is used for large meetings and other functions, over the past five years or so to make it more available to townspeople for various functions, but it is not used, for the most part, in the winter months.
