PORTLAND — Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders share something in common.

They all owe money to the city of Portland, Maine.

City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin says the Portland Police Department is awaiting payment for overtime for police officers. That’s $262 for a Clinton event at King Middle School; $771 for a Sanders event held at State Theater; and $1,583.81 for Trump’s rally at the Westin Harborview Hotel.

Grondin says the bills were sent on March 28 and April 1 before Republican Trump and Democrat Clinton were formally nominated at their party conventions. But the city doesn’t really expect to be paid.

She said political campaigns routinely ignore such bills. She says the campaigns typically say it was the Secret Service, not the campaigns, that requested extra security.
