As a Poland Spring employee and Rumford native, I wanted to personally respond to Jon Starr’s letter (July 6).

Like Starr, I want what is best for Rumford. I grew up in Rumford. I will always care about my hometown and the folks who live there.

Poland Spring has been a wonderful company to work for and has done so much for the communities in which they operate. The company has invested more than $500 million since 2000 in capital projects and more than $5.5 million in community giving in that same period to support schools, environmental conservation and so much more.

Maine communities benefit from responsible companies such as Poland Spring. That is why it is discouraging to hear some of the misinformation that is being circulated about the company.

As the manager of the Poland Spring tanker fleet, I want to speak directly to Starr’s comments on truck traffic on rural roads. If operations are established in Rumford, I would personally be engaged with the town and residents to address traffic concerns. Being a responsible neighbor is important to me and is why I want to hear concerns and find meaningful solutions.

As this research period continues, I truly hope people keep an open mind toward Poland Spring’s site exploration and potential agreement with the Water District. I would also encourage everyone to participate in the informational sessions we will have in the weeks ahead so people can learn firsthand about the company and this project.
