FARMINGTON — Pokemon Go! players may especially enjoy downtown Farmington’s First Friday Art Walk & More in August.

During the first Friday event, from 5 to 8 p.m., Aug. 5, some businesses will serve as temporary Pokestops, organizer Malcolm Porter said.

Participating businesses will post the temporary Pokestop poster in their windows. This is outside the actual online game, he said.

Players can pick up a PokePass from any participating business and have the PokePass signed or stamped at each business. The pass will list other participating businesses. Once completed, it can be returned to Enchanted Herbs and Botanicals.

It is similar to the Where is Waldo contest offered by Devaney Doak & Garrett where participants search for Waldo and have their passports signed or stamped at each location visited, he said.

Each PokePass returned to Enchanted Herbs and Botanicals on Main Street is included in a drawing for three team T-shirts, he said. The shirts are red, blue and yellow representing the colors of the teams in the game.

Porter expects the Pokemon Go! event will draw numerous game participants tracking their way along with their phones, he said.

Enchanted Herbs and Botanicals on Main Street will also host the second annual “Artists of Walmart” art show during the First Friday event.

Ten local artists, all employees of Wal-Mart, will show their work in a variety of mediums. The show is organized by Assistant Store Manager David Spinney-Porter.

Last year, the “Artists of Walmart” brought over 130 visitors in to view the work.

Some other downtown participants include Sugarwood Gallery, which will hold their Artist of the Month reception. The August open house features the work of David Clinard.

Minikins will host the music of the Merry Plinksters, a local ukulele group, and Calico Patch plans to host a showing of local artists.

Porter hopes to have other activities posted on the Downtown Farmington Facebook page prior to the event.
