1950 – 2016
LIVERMORE FALLS — Stephen “Beaver” E. Allen, 65, a resident of Livermore Falls, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 2. at his home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1950, in Rumford, the son of David H. Allen Sr. and Birdena P. (Bourdeau) Allen. He was a 1969 graduate of Livermore Falls High School and also attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Following school, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served during the Vietnam War. In 1975, he married Rhonda Hardy.
He worked as a custodian and bus driver for SAD 36 and RSU 73 for 37 years. During that time, he coached the ski teams for 22 years at Livermore Falls High School and served as shop steward for the MEA union. You would also find Beaver helping his dad with installs at Allen’s TV.
He was a member and past president of Hillside Sports Club, and a member of Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 and AMVETS Post 33, all in Jay. He was an avid reader, coin collector and sports fan. When Brandon and Nissa were younger, he loved taking them fishing and camping, and spending time at Pine Point. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Nissa Caton and her husband, Brock, of Farmington; his son, Brandon Allen and his wife, Sarah, of Winthrop; grandchildren, Amara and Lennox Caton and Madeline Allen; brothers, David Allen Jr. and his wife, Teri, of Readfield and Richard “Rich” Allen and his wife, Pam, of Mexico; and many nieces and nephews.
