1924 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Mona Maggie Currier Nadeau, 92, of Farmington passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, at Sandy River Center for Healthcare in Farmington.

She was born July 1, 1924, in Hartland, the daughter of Linwood and Winnie Currier. She attended schools in New Sharon, graduating in 1942. In April 1943, she married Joseph J. Nadeau, who passed in 2003.

She worked as a waitress, a nurse’s aide, and at G.H. Bass & Co. Mona loved to knit and crochet, as well as do crossword and word search puzzles. In past years, she had a cat, Tabbie, and took many walks with her dogs, Jeff and Mickey. When living in Farmington, she took almost daily walks “up the street” even into her 90s. She enjoyed her Wednesday lunches with friends at McDonalds. She had a strong love of family and appreciation for the beauty of nature — especially sunsets.

When young, she loved to fish and swim with her brother, Johnny. She had a sharp wit and great sense of humor. In rough times, she never lost her positivity and could find something good in everyone. You always knew where you stood with Mona. She often commented “I’m tough” and she was. She will be greatly missed by many.

Mona is survived by two sisters, Vivian Tracy of Auburn and June Currier of Rhode Island; two brothers, Delmar Currier of New Sharon and Linwood “John” Currier and wife, Alberta, of New Sharon; a sister-in-law, Ellen Currier of West Gardiner; and several much loved nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; brother, Adrian Paul Currier; sister, Kathleen Nadeau; and nephews, Darryl, Warren, Frederick Stanley, Eugene and Edward Russell Nadeau.

Her family wants to especially thank the staff of the Porter and Sugarloaf units at Sandy River for making her feel so at home. Her family is truly appreciative of the love and caring they gave her. Many of the staff came in to see her and sit with her in her last few days.

Condolences may be sent for the family at www.adamsmcfarlane.com.
