1937 – 2016

PORTLAND — Barbara E. Gowell, 79, of South Paris expired Sunday, Aug. 7.

She was born in South Paris, the daughter of Wilder and Alta Merrill on March 1, 1937. She was a graduate of Paris High School in the Class of 1955 and Portland Business College, with an associate degree in accounting in 1957.

For 36 years, she worked in the administration department as a financial officer and also as an administrator for Andrews Nursing Home and Rumford Community Home.

On Sept. 21, 1957, she married Charles Gowell and they had one son, Stephen.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Stephen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; and sisters, Janice Hoskins and Patricia King.
