LIVERMORE — Pam Doyen was randomly selected to receive the $1,000 Pollard Scholarship on Aug. 9 before the Board of Selectpersons meeting.

Twelve applicants were reviewed and their names were put into a hat. Doyen’s name was selected.

The scholarship was started in 1980 by former Livermore resident Augustus Pollard, who bequeathed money for the town to establish a fund to help one Livermore resident annually with education expenses.

Eligible candidates must have been Livermore residents for at least five years and write an essay explaining why they’re applying. They must also provide a transcript or statement from a school adviser showing the successful completion of one unit at their school.

Doyen is a post-graduate student at the University of Maine in Orono, where she’s studying education leadership.
