100 years ago, 1916
Arrangements have been made beginning this morning to have the Sun delivered at the houses throughout the village by Charles Earley. The papers will arrive on the 5:30 car and will be delivered at once so that the people may have them at breakfast time for the small sum of 10 cents a week.

50 years ago, 1966
(Photo Caption) This giant puffball (about basketball size), or more properly a fungi of the family Lycoperdaeeae, was found by two Lewiston boys in the woods near the Pineland Lumber Co. off Avon Street, Lewiston. The boys made the find on Saturday and plan to take the giant globe to Bates College to see if it would he of interest there. Holding the puffball is William Belanger, 15, of 20 Summer St., Lewiston, and holding one of ordinary size (about baseball size) is Louis Parent, 15, of 4 Avon St., Lewiston.

25 years ago, 1991
Republican Congresswoman Olympia Snowe, following a 13-year tradition, held yet another “town meeting” Wednesday morning. About 30 people — the majority of them senior citizens — gathered in council chambers at the City Building to discuss a variety of topics including health care, the federal deficit, the proposed closure of Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, the fate of B-1 bombers, the state’s financial crisis, the effects of the current recession and space exploration.
