1934 – 2016

SOUTH PARIS — Elizabeth M. “Betty” Payne, 82, of South Paris passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 13.

Betty was born in Buckfield on June 7, 1934, a daughter of Guy W. and Velma (Bragg) Ellingwood. She graduated from Buckfield High School and was Carnival Queen of her graduating class.

She married Rodney Payne on Feb. 28, 1953.

For most of her life, Betty was a self-employed antique dealer and enjoyed many years in the antique business with her husband, Rodney, until he died on Feb. 13, 1986. They also started Payne’s Redemption Center in the late ’70s.

She was a member of the Twin Town Nature Club, attended the Oxford Advent Christian Church and Christian Women United.

She enjoyed yard sales, reading and her beautiful flower gardens. No dog left Betty’s home without a piece of cheese.

She leaves behind her four children, Sherri, Wanda, Randy and Danny; seven grandchildren, Justin, Jake, Manda, Jazmin, Rodney, Miranda and Becca; four great-grandchildren, Teaka, Max, Kassidy and Sophia; and her sister, Ruth Frechette of Buckfield.
