AUBURN — The Community Little Theatre is holding open auditions for the hit musical “Chicago” on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 29 and 30, 6:30 p.m., at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center, 30 Academy St., Auburn. This Tony Award winning show includes music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and book by Ebb and Bob Fosse.

In roaring 20s Chicago, Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap … until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “merry murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal. In addition to a dazzling score, this sharp-edged satire features choreography by Bob Fosse.

In addition to Roxie and Velma, other principle roles include jail matron Mama Morton, lawyer Billy Flynn, “sob sister” reporter Mary Sunshine and Amos Hart. Several supporting roles and a strong ensemble will also need to be cast. Descriptions of all roles are available on the CLT website. All cast members for this production must be at least 18 years of age.

Auditioners will be required to participate in all three units (vocal, choreography, dialogue) and should prepare a brief musical number from “Chicago “that demonstrates their vocal range. A piano accompanist will be provided. No a cappella singing and no prerecorded music will be allowed. Auditioners should bring character or jazz shoes for the movement/dance audition.

The show will run from Nov. 4-13. Richard Martin is the director, Paul G. Caron, music director and Karen Martin, producer. More information, including a printable audition worksheet, is available at online at www.laclt.com.
