AUGUSTA — The official kick-off date for Maine’s Hire-A-Vet Campaign is Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Augusta Armory, 179 Western Ave.

Opening remarks are scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

Retired veterans Richard Kowalczyk and colleague Mark Cater of the Lewiston CareerCenter are representatives assisting veterans throughout Maine. Kowalczyk is a disabled veteran outreach program representative, and Cater is the local veterans employment representative.

They’re working with the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs and other sponsors to provide support for employers to expand the hiring of veterans.

The event will feature a network of state and federal agencies, recruiting resources and nonprofit connections. The goal is to hire 100 veterans in 100 days.
