1938 – 2016
LEWISTON — Judith Jumper, 78, of 46 Googin St., Lewiston, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston due to complications from her long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Born in Portland on June 10, 1938, she was the daughter of Eugene and Ruth Carbee Gurney. She attended elementary school in Portland, a city that held a tight grip on her heart throughout her life. Her family relocated to Lewiston where she went to and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1956. She worked in the office at Hall & Knight Hardware until she married the love of her life, David Jumper on April 18, 1964.
Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved her family and never missed an opportunity to bring them together. Her annual Christmas party was a special time for her as family and friends all gathered at her finely decorated home to celebrate, and she always made sure that everyone went home with one of her handmade ornaments. She had a creative soul and was a talented painter.
Grammy was the biggest fan of all nine of her grandchildren and would brag about each one proudly. She loved attending all of their sporting events, dance recitals, cheering competitions and school events to cheer them on. Her grandchildren were her inspiration and as her disease progressed she wrote all their names down so she could say them everyday because she didn’t want to forget any of them.
Besides her devoted husband of 52 years, David, who was absolutely amazing and selfless in caring for and loving her throughout her battle with Alzheimer’s, she is survived by a son, Mark and wife, Anne Marie, of Lewiston; a daughter, Kathleen and husband, David Burns, of Scarborough; nine grandchildren, Ashia Jumper and significant other, Wesley Roy, Gabrielle and husband, Nick Blais, Audrey, Bailey, Benjamin and Thomas Jumper, Taylor, Kaitlyn and Kristen Burns; and five great-grandchildren, Braiden, Elliot and Madeline Blais, and Dominick and Sophia Roy.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene Jr. and Dennis; and a sister, Barbara Lafrance.
