Christmas at Phillips Farmers’ Market

PHILLIPS — The Phillips Farmers Market will celebrate Christmas from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the American Legion Hall on Depot Street.

Shopping can be completed early with great prices on Maine maple syrup, alpaca mittens, plarn rugs, locally made sugar-free chocolate and more. The market is open 10-2 at the American Legion Hall on Depot St.

Dead River open house

STRATTON — The Dead River Area Historical Society will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28.

An Ice Cream Social will be from 1 to 3 p.m. served by our volunteers. Charlie Bruce will entertain. He does a great John Denver and takes requests. 

The Dead River Area Historical Society is open every weekend throughout July and August and by advance appointment year-round.

Twin Town Nature Club to meet

OXFORD —The Twin Town Nature Club will meet at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, on the south side near Route 26 of the Oxford Wal Mart parking lot to car pool to Winslow Park in Freeport to explore the nature trail.

Visitors are welcome. Those attending should bring a picnic lunch.

Sale to benefit Books for Bikes

FARMINGTON — Wilton Lodge No. 156 will hold a yard sale from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to Sunday, Sept. 9, 10 and 11, in the parking lot at Hannaford.

Members are looking for donations of good items to sell. Lodge members can pick up items.

The sale will benefit the lodge’s Books for Bikes program, which awards new bikes to boys and girls in each grade at Cushing School and Academy Hill School in the spring. For each book read, students can submit a ticket for the bike drawing.

Bridge club lists results

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 12 for a 9½ table Mitchell movement.

Finishing first N/S flight A were Pat Quinn and R. Verrill; second, Paul Kahlo and Nick Karamessinis; third, Mike Quinn and Mike True; and, fourth, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings. Finishing first in flight B were Linda Smith and Jack Neal, who also were first in flight C; second, Ellie and Lindy Wigton; third and second in C, Karen MacNeill and Marjorie Levesque; third in C and fourth in B, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr.

Finishing first in flight A E/W were Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; second, Richard Balian and Misha Tomic; third, Neanie Kivus and David Lock; fourth, Shelly and David Kaminskey, who also were first in flights B and C; second in B, Georgette Jewell and Pat Soule; third in B, Marty Round and Martha Thurlow; and fourth in C, Jim Dickens and Denny Raymond.

Games are played at 9:15 a.m. Fridays in the Oxford Recreation building. All bridge players are welcome, and a partner is guaranteed.
