1937 – 2016

SCARBOROUGH — Fred N. Vose III, 78, of Brunswick, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

He was born in Belfast on Nov. 13, 1937, the son of Edward and Althea (Merrill) Vose. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1956, then joined the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged.

Fred worked at Bath Iron Works as a welder for more than 30 years and retired in 2000. He enjoyed road trips to nowhere through rural Maine, time spent with family at home, around the pool and “upta” camp. He was well-known for his sense of humor and political opinions.

Fred loved building with his hands and was a gifted furniture maker in his retirement. He loved airplanes, enjoyed building ultralight airplanes and visiting with others involved in the same hobbies.

Fred is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Saundra (Sunny) (Whitmore) Vose of Brunswick; three daughters, Sherrie Kirker of Westboro, Mass., Kimberly Savage and her husband, Todd, of Warrenton, Va., and Hollie Vose of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren, Garrett Kirker, Zoe Savage and Graham Savage; two sisters, Joan Staples and her husband, Wally, of Dayton, Texas, and Paula Robbins of Topsham; and his brother, Paul Vose and his wife, Sue, of Derry, N.H. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank-you to the staff of Hill House in Bath, Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for all of their dedication and wonderful care.
