When this home needed new windows, they were donated. When it needed carpet and linoleum for the floors, they were donated. When it needed furniture, it was found in a recently closed monastery in Canada. When it needed an electrician, one volunteered his time. And when something needed to be bought, like plumbing materials, “we had the money,” said Brother Irenee Richard, the Dominican who has steered the St. Martin de Porres Residence for homeless men and women into existence. The home will be open to its guests after an open house Sept 7.
