NEW GLOUCESTER — Selectmen on Thursday set the tax rate at $14.70 per $1,000 of assessed property value. It’s an increase of 5 cents from last year.
The new rate was calculated after an error of $69,000 was found in the municipal appropriation portion of the commitment. The mistake was found by Town Manager Paul First.
The town’s computer software program must be adjusted to reflect the new calculation, which staff will do starting early Monday morning. Staff will not accept tax payments during the procedure.
“We have to reverse what we’ve done by taking the old numbers out and go through a sequence of steps,” First said.
