POLAND — The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office on Monday was investigating the theft of a golf cart and the vandalism of greens overnight at Summit Spring Golf Course, authorities said.

The vandalism at the golf course at 292 Summit Spring Road, which was discovered early Monday morning, likely happened around midnight, according to course manager Mary Rich.

Vandals damaged a number of golf carts and stole one, she said. Other items taken included gas cans, compressors and building lumber. She estimated the value of the stolen property at around $10,000.

The vandals had driven a cart onto the putting greens at four of the holes at the course, leaving deep tire tracks and ruts, Rich said.

Several sprinkler heads were snapped off, she said.

A couple of months ago, someone had driven a truck onto a fairway that was close to the road and caused minor damage, “but nothing of this caliber,” she said.

Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Jim Jacques said Monday afternoon authorities collected evidence at the scene but had no suspects.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Jacques at 207-753-2599.
