OXFORD —  Selectmen have been told that the $15 million, 92-room, four-floor Hampton Inn on Route 26 is set to open on Saturday, Oct. 1, according to Town Manager Derik Goodine.

Construction of the $15 million Hampton Inn on Route 26 in Oxford is expected to open Oct. 1.

Construction of the $15 million Hampton Inn on Route 26 in Oxford is expected to open Oct. 1.

Goodine said he and members of the Board of Selectmen met with GIRI I Oxford LLC, president Ashish Sangani, a Massachusetts developer of multiple hotels under the GIRI Hotels name, last Thursday, Aug. 25, in executive session.

Goodine said selectmen asked Sangani to meet with them to discuss issues pertaining to economic development.

The roughly 4-acre property was sold by Suzanne Hall, owner of Crestholm Farms, to GIRI Oxford I LLC, a subsidiary of GIRI, in November 2013. The GIRI Hotel Management Group signed an agreement with Calamar of New York,  to be the general contractor for the hotel. They broke ground in March 2014.

The hotel has faced four liens since construction began, but at least three have been resolved and none have affected the ongoing construction at the site, according to John K.S. Cleary, vice president for hospitality at Calamar.

Goodine said the board asked Sangani questions about the hotel and its development, and will do the same type of “monitoring” when construction of the Oxford Casino hotel, located directly across the street, gets underway. By gathering that information, Goodine said, the board can better define issues such as Credit Enhancement Agreements for other future development in the area.

“There appear to be no other issues,” he told the Advertiser Democrat when asked if he or the board had any issues or concerns about the hotel’s opening.
