Food preservation workshop announced

FARMINGTON — University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering “Preserving the Harvest,” a series of hands-on workshops in September.

Canning Tomatoes and Salsa will be offered in Farmington from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at UMaine Extension, 138 Pleasant St. Suite 1. The cost is $20.

UMaine Extension staff and volunteers will lead the workshops. Fresh produce, jars and other canning equipment will be provided. Fees include a sample to take home.

Socrates Cafe to meet

WATERFORD — Socrates Cafe will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Waterford Library.

The topic will be “Obesity: A Big Problem” with moderator Bob Casimiro.

LRCC to rehearse for Winter Concert

BRIDGTON — The Lake Region Community Chorus is starting rehearsals for the fourth annual Winter Concert. Singers of all levels of experience are welcome; there will not be an audition.

Rehearsals will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at at Twitchell Chapel on the campus of Bridgton Academy.

Arts and Crafts Association meeting

FARMINGTON — Franklin County Arts and Crafts Association has scheduled fall meetings in preparation for its annual crafts fair in December.

The first meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the University of Maine at Farmington’s North Dining Hall. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. for fair registration, followed by a business session at 7 p.m.

Subsequent meetings will be held Tuesdays, Oct. 18, and Nov. 15, at the same time and location.

The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, at the UMF Student Center.

Bridge club lists results

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 26 for a 9½ table Howell movement.

Finishing first N/S flight A were Rosemarie Goodwin and Luke Merr; second, Richard Balian and Pete Cummings; third, Mike Quinn and Mike True; fourth, Eilene Potvin and Della Starbird.

First in flight B were Cindy and Bob Kirchherr; second, Ellie and Lindy Wigton; third, Marilyn and Richard Canton; fourth, Karen McNeill and Martha Levesque, who also were second in flight C; third in C, Carol Correard and Milt McKeen Jr.

Finishing first in flight A E/W were Carolyn and David Ehrman, who also were first in flights B and C; second in A, Misha Tomic and Rick Verrill; third, Marty Round and Martha Thurlow; fourth, Shelly and David Kaminsky, who also were second in B and C; third in B, B.J. and Steve Cavicchi, who also were third in C; fourth in B, Pat Soule and Georgette Jewell; and fourth in C, Denise Whitley and Frank Ferland.
