BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Land Trust will participate in the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend on Saturday, Sept. 17. The statewide event invites people to play outside.
Hikers can climb up Mt. Crag in Shelburne, New Hampshire, at 9:30 a.m. Hikers will meet at the Austin Brook Trailhead on North Road in Shelburne, across from a turnstile gate at Millbrook Trust Farm. This family hike takes about two hours.
Also offered are a paddle on the Androscoggin River, two biking opportunities (17 or 21 miles) and a gentle walk in the woods to discover and identify mushrooms. These activities will begin at 10 a.m. at the Mahoosuc Land Trust, 18 Mayville Road.
There will be a barbecue at noon at the Land Trust office, where cider, burgers and hot dogs will be served. Those attending are asked to bring a picnic dish to share.
Those planning to hike or bike should bring appropriate footwear, water and layers of clothing. Those who plan on paddling a canoe or kayak should bring life preservers.
The Land Trust’s Art Show will open at 11 a.m. at the Land Trust office. A display of work by local photographers, artists and writers celebrating the unique beauty of the area will be on display.
There will also be children’s-only events from noon to 2 p.m. at the Land Trust office. Activities include making sun prints, bubbles and nature kaleidoscopes, building fairy houses and going on an orienteering scavenger hunt. Activities are free and open to the public.
