LEWISTON — Over the next few months, TD Bank will lay off about 35 employees at its Lewiston operations center.

The back-office workers will have their jobs outsourced, the Portland Press Herald has reported.

A spokeswoman for the company said a third-party vendor will take on the work of the 35 employees to improve productivity.

The spokeswoman told the newspaper the bank, which employs about 1,000 people at the Lewiston operation, remains committed to a strong presence in Maine. It has 3,200 employees statewide.
