FARMINGTON — The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday approved a liquor license for a proposed Mexican restaurant downtown.
Ryan Nezol plans to open the restaurant, Uno Mas, at 103 Narrow Gauge Square, the site formerly used by Thai Smile.
The restaurant will feature Mexican foods made with local ingredients and craft beers from around the state, he said. He is doing some renovations and hopes to be open around mid-October.
In other business, the board set a public hearing on amending the town’s traffic ordinance to define use of the new parking lot at 112 Church St. The hearing will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the Municipal Building.
As recommended by the Parking Committee, the amendments include overnight and long-term parking along with winter hours. The amendments state that parking is prohibited from noon to 3 p.m. Sundays from November to April to allow for snow removal.
The committee recommended that the lot be approved for overnight and long-term parking, except from midnight to 6 a.m. from Nov. 15 to April 15 in 14 spaces on the west side of the lot along Cony Street. The terms would not apply to 13 spaces on the east of the Church Street lot.
The owner of any vehicle violating the rule could be fined $20 and/or towing costs.
During a previous hearing on using Tax Increment Financing funds, several members of the public wanted to say there should not be any overnight parking, but the hearing only focused on the TIF, Selectman Michael Fogg said. He said the lot should be available during the day but closed after 6 p.m.
Other board members said they have heard mixed opinions on the new parking lot.
