JAY — Selectpersons have accepted an amended Cemetery Policy that gets the town out of digging graves and burials, and increases the cost of cemetery lots from $125 to $200 for residents and from $200 to $275 for nonresidents.

Funeral home directors will now be in charge of hiring people to dig graves and do burials, once the amended policy goes into effect Jan. 1, 2017.

The town’s responsibility will be limited to the sale of lots and locating lots for owners and funeral homes.

The policy also changes the number of cremated bodies allowed in one grave from two to four.
