LOVELL — Artist Margaret Nomentana will teach “Reading History, Making Art: A Look at Portraits, Self and Otherwise” on the first Thursday and Saturday of the month beginning in October.

The class is open to beginners and those with intermediate abilities.

On Thursdays, the class will learn and discuss ways artists create their own portraits through readings. The class will create its own portraits on Saturdays, using a variety of mediums including painting and photography.

Artists such as Lucian Freud, Alice Neel and Diane Arbus will be discussed.

Nomentana will hold an introduction for those interested in the class at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29.

Classes begin Thursday, Oct. 6, with a studio session from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.

Those interested must register by Sept. 30. A minimum of six students is required.

Nomentana makes large abstract paintings, and she will show her work this fall at the Jewish Museum in Portland. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from Goddard College.
