It was reported yesterday than another campaign is soon to be started against the slot machines. These machines seem to be back again. Chief McCarron has not been able to keep them out. Some of the machines now running look almost exactly like some of the machines the local police reported to have been destroyed, and it is suspected that somebody picked up the pieces and put them together. At any rate, machines are running as of old in Lewiston.

About 32 purebred coon hounds ran loose for a few moments Tuesday morning when a car operated by Clyde D. Neader, 41, of St. Louis, Mo., was involved in an accident. State Police Trooper Robert Larrivee said the car was hauling a trailer when the latter fishtailed and tipped over, freeing the canines. The mishap occurred on the Maine Turnpike four miles north of Lewiston. One of the dogs was killed and the others were treated by area veterinarians.

Senior running back Fred Bean scored three touchdowns and rushed for 256 yards Friday night as Edward Little upset defending state Class A football champion Biddeford, 24-13, at Auburn’s Walton Field. In all, it was a lucky Friday the 13th for local teams, as Lewiston stopped South Portland, 20-7, and Leavitt shut out York, 14-0. Edward Little’s win not only took place on the 13th, but was the first Red Eddies victory over the Tigers in 13 years. And, of course, the visitors were held to 13 points.
