West Paris Historical Society to meet
PARIS — The West Paris Historical Society held its August meeting on Aug. 15.
Officers elected were: Deana Abbott, president; Ted Jones, vice-president; Elaine Emery, secretary/treasurer; and Carol Belskis, membership.
Betty Jones, who graciously served for nine years, retired.
Walter Bannon spoke about his book, “The White Pocketbook,” about his mother who lived in Belgium during World War II.
The next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, staring with a pot luck dinner. Guest speaker Stuart Goodwin will talk at 7 p.m. about the shoe industry of years gone by.

Friendship Squares square dance lessons
WILTON — Friendship Squares Dancing Club will offer two free square dance lessons from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 19 and 26, at Academy Hill School.
The group meets from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Monday. The first hour is for beginners with help from the experienced dancers. The group is open to ages 14 and older.
Callers are Walt and Gracie Bull. They provide instruction in a very relaxed setting with a personal touch.

Holy Savior fall festival
RUMFORD — Holy Savior Parish and School will have its fall festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, on Franklin Street.
The festival will include events like Touch a Truck, games, a bake sale, food and a variety of vendors.

LIVERMORE FALLS — Friends Together Peer Support and Recovery Center will hold a yard sale during the Apple Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, Sept. 24.

Rabies vaccination, microchip clinic
NORWAY — Responsible Pet Care will sponsor a rabies vaccination and microchip clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Norway Fire Station.
The vaccination will cost $10 per animal, and the microchip will be $25.
The attending veterinarian will be Dr. Suzanne Best, DVM.

Chinese auction to benefit shelter
PARIS — A Chinese auction to benefit Responsible Pet Care will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
Bidding will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., and the drawing will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets will cost $5, $10 and $20, and there will be bonus tickets.
There will more than 300 items, and refreshments will be available.
Treat Library book sale
LIVERMORE FALLS — Treat Memorial Library is accepting book donations for their annual Apple Pumpkin Festival Book Sale.
The book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24.
Donations may be brought to the library during regular hours.
Benefit bike race Sept. 24
PARIS — The Tour De O’Hills Nordic bike race will be on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The race begins at 8:30 a.m. It includes a 10-mile course through the hills of Norway and a shorter 3-mile loop designed for novice bikers and older children. The race will start and end at Gouin Field in South Paris. The race will be in a time-trial/interval start format, and helmets are required for all riders.
Registration will be open from 7 to 8:15 a.m. the day of the race. Cost is $25 for adults and $20 for those 17 and younger. Discounted preregistration rates are $20 for adults and $15 for those 17 and younger.
Race proceeds benefit the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Nordic ski team. The money will be used to pay for a five-day trip to Fort Kent for advanced training, equivalent to 26 after-school practices.
