1938 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Donald “Don” F. Fitch, 78, a lifelong resident of Wilton passed away Friday, Sept. 16, at Sandy River in Farmington, following a brief illness.

He was born May 26, 1938, in Wilton, the son of Erwin A. Fitch and Nettie (Bean) Fitch. He attended school in Wilton and received his GED through Jay High School. He also attended Foster Technical School in Farmington.

Donald proudly served in the U.S Navy. He worked through the years at Bass Shoe in Wilton, in building construction at DeCoster’s in Turner and later worked as a self-employed finish carpenter. Donald enjoyed working with wood and building furniture.

He was devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Wilton.

He is survived by his son, Christopher D. Fitch and his wife, Rebecca, of Livermore; his daughter, Melissa Brackley and her companion, Peter McGray, of Turner; five grandchildren, Kevin, Payton, Samantha, Megan and Michael; five great-grandchildren, Noah, Kara, Matthew, Elizabeth and Dominic; his brother, George Fitch and his wife, Eleanor, of Wilton; and his sister, Maxine Baston of Auburn.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Erwin and Kenneth Fitch; and his sister, Kathleen Slater.
