LEWISTON — You can still see the marks on Lisa Gemme’s neck, where she says her boyfriend choked her Sunday night.

“He’s done it many times, like five times,” Gemme said. “And I just forgave him.”

She says she was afraid Jonathan Order was going to kill her outside a club in Sabattus, after she jumped from his moving car.

“And then he was going to come back and was going to run me over. And then this nice guy … he grabbed my arm and picked me up before he ran me over,” Gemme said. “He would have killed me.”

Police say when they later tried to arrest order at his home in Lewiston, he refused to surrender.

Minutes later, neighbor Don Billings says he saw order stab a police officer.

“I saw him come through the door with a knife,” Billings said. “When he opened the door, he came at him and he attacked him twice and he stabbed him.”

Police say Order stabbed Cpl. Mike Dumond five times.

“He has three stab wounds to his upper chest, one to his back, his upper shoulder blade,” chief Brian O’Malley said. “And then a slice across his hand; more of a defensive wound as he was trying to stop the assailant from stabbing him.”

Police say Dumond is now out of the hospital and resting at home. Two dozen police officers lined the courtroom for Order’s appearance Monday on a dozen charges.

A judge set his bail at $1 million. In addition to the stabbing, Order is also accused of assaulting two corrections officers who were trying to search him at the jail.

“We took the handcuffs off to do the search,” Jail Administrator Jeff Chute said. “And during that time he became combative.”

Lisa Gemme says she wishes she’d gotten out of the abusive relationship sooner.

“I’m just worried about the cop more than anything,” Gemme said. “I feel so bad and I want to talk to him and tell him I’m sorry. The only thing I’m worried about is him.”

Police have already charged Jonathan Order with eight felonies, including aggravated attempted murder for allegedly stabbing that police officer. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
