Daughters of Union Veterans to meet

PARIS — The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19 of Stoneham will meet Thursday, Sept. 29, at the First Baptist Church on Paris Hill.

The last meeting was Aug. 25. Two prospective members attended.

Loon Echo Trek raises $60K

BRIDGTON — Nearly 250 trekkers participated in the 16th Annual Loon Echo Trek Sept. 17 at Shawnee Peak Ski Area.

The event raised over $60,000 for the nonprofit, which protects over 6,600 acres of land and 28 miles of trails.

Top individual fundraisers were Jill Rogers of Byfield, Massachusetts, who raised $1,750, and Wendy Newcomb of Sebago, who brought in $800.

Nearly 200 cyclists were registered for the trek, and over 60 hikers participated. Nearly a dozen people participated in the Hike and Bike Combo, which includes completing either the 4½- or 6-mile hike, followed by the 25 or 50-mile bike ride.

The 17th Annual Loon Echo Trek will take place Sept. 16, 2017.

Hope Association seeks old planters

RUMFORD — The Hope Association is seeking used planters that are in good shape. They may be donated to the What-Not-Shop to be reused in the Briar Patch Greenhouse in the spring.
