Friday, 7 p.m.

The Red Eddies played Portland close for a half, and played Cheverus close for 48 minutes, but lost both games. They will need to play very well for 48 minutes against an Eagles team that is better than their 2-2 record and nearly beat Thornton Academy on the road.

SANFORD (2-2) AT LEWISTON (1-3)

Friday, 7 p.m.

The Blue Devils will need to build on their win over Bangor in order to create a winning streak. The Spartans have only lost to Thornton Academy and Scarborough, and usually are a solid team. Lewiston will need to put forth its best effort and stay away from penalties and turnovers to win this one.

MT. BLUE (0-4) AT GARDINER (1-3)

Friday, 7 p.m.

The Cougars’ chances of getting their first win and turning their season around are dwindling. They were close against Hampden. Now they take on a Tigers team that got its first win last week against Nokomis, which like Mt. Blue is also 0-4.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER (0-4) AT LAKE REGION (0-4)

Friday, 7 p.m.

This is likely the Patriots’ best chance at a win this season. The Lakers have been better at scoring points, and played Poland close in last week’s battle of 0-3 teams. Gray-NG will need to find something more in its young team to earn a road win.

CAPE ELIZABETH (4-0) AT MOUNTAIN VALLEY (2-2)

Friday, 7 p.m.

The Falcons have no time to feel sorry about themselves after getting blown out at Wells last week. Now they host Class C South’s other undefeated team, in the Capers. Maybe coach Pat Mooney will have his team watch the movie “The Rivals” in preparation of this game.

POLAND (1-3) AT SPRUCE MOUNTAIN (2-2)

Friday, 7 p.m.

Both teams found that winning feeling last week. The Phoenix look better on paper, especially after rolling over Gray-NG last week, but maybe the Knights are starting to figure things out under new coach Gene Keene. A road win at Griffin Field is a tall task, though.

DIRIGO (1-2) AT MARANACOOK (0-4)

Friday, 7 p.m.

The Cougars are probably steaming after getting shut out by Lisbon at home last week. Now they get to take their frustrations out on a Black Bears team that has as small a roster as them. Dirigo has a big edge in talent, though, and should be able to flex its muscles.

OAK HILL (3-0) AT WINTHROP/MONMOUTH (4-0)

Friday, 7 p.m.

There have been good moments and not-so-good moments for these two teams, but hey, they’re both undefeated going into this mid-season clash. Maybe give the edge to the Ramblers for homefield advantage and returning experience. But it’s likely both teams will call themselves underdogs in this battle of big dogs.

MASSABESIC (0-4) AT OXFORD HILLS/BUCKFIELD (1-3)

Saturday, 1 p.m.

The Vikings stayed close with Portland for a half last week. To rebound from that loss, they will probably want to make it not-so-close against a Mustangs team that they should be better than. Plus, it’s homecoming for the Vikings, so there’s some added motivation.

LISBON (2-1) AT TRAIP (1-2)

Saturday, 1:30 p.m.

Winthrop/Monmouth found out earlier in the seaosn that the trip down to Kittery isn’t an easy one. The Greyhounds fired out of their bye week by beating Dirigo big on the road. Keeping with what worked in that game, they would like to keep rolling heading into next week’s home game vs. Oak Hill.

FALMOUTH (3-1) AT LEAVITT (1-3)

Saturday, 7 p.m.

The Hornets finally return to Turner after going 1-2 in a three-game road trip. They will be welcomed home by welcoming in a Falmouth team that is a few plays from being undefeated still. Never count out a Mike Hathaway-coached team, but Leavitt will be the underdog in this one.
