NEW SHARON — A Jay woman pleaded guilty Wednesday in a Farmington court to illegal possession of a drug.

Maine State Police Trooper Randy Hall said he responded to a suspicious vehicle report late Tuesday night on Cape Cod Hill Road and found a Ford Explorer parked half on the road and half on the ditch. The vehicle had run out of gas.

He said there was an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and some marijuana was on the passenger visor drying.

The driver, Jessica Rickards, 31, of Jay had been drinking, Hall said. She and passenger Daniel Tracy, 31, of New Sharon were “highly intoxicated,” he said.

Tracy was wanted on three warrants pertaining to unpaid fines.

Hall and Franklin County Deputy Derrick Doucette searched the vehicle and found one tablet of Vyvansel, an amphetamine, and 10 gabapentin pills in a cigarette package. The drugs were not prescribed to either Rickards or Tracy, Hall said.

Police also found drug paraphernalia, a crack pipe and more marijuana buds, he said.

Hall arrested Rickards on one misdemeanor count each of unlawful possession of Vyvanse and unlawful possession of gabapentin. He also issued her a summons on civil violations of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rickards pleaded guilty to the amphetamine charge and the state dismissed the gabapentin charge. She was fined $400, according to court documents, and released from jail Wednesday.

Tracy was arrested on three warrants pertaining to unpaid fines. He was placed on a payment plan by the court and released from jail. Hall also issued him a summons on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a suspended license.
