1932 – 2016
AUBURN — Forrest L. Adair, 84, of Minot, formerly of Morse Road, New Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 22, at the Androscoggin Hospice House with his family by his side.
He was born in Hodgdon on May 30, 1932, the son of Ernest and Annie Stewart Adair. He graduated from Hodgdon High School in 1950, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served four years as a submarine engineman. He married Patricia A. Prosser on March 23, 1956.
He had been employed as a truck driver for most of his career and won the state championship three different years at the state tractor trailer rodeo. He was also a gunsmith, this was his job at times as well as a hobby. He enjoyed HO gauge trains, building model airplanes and competing in model airplane contests all over New England. He also enjoyed playing golf with his wife in their retirement years, here in Maine and in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and fishing for most of his life.
He is survived by a son, Rodney Adair and wife, Sandra, of New Gloucester; a daughter, Serae Hemond and husband, Donald, of Minot; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, on May 7, 2015.
The family would like to thank the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice and the Hospice House for their TLC in the last few weeks of dad’s life.
