1932 – 2016
VAN BUREN — Verna L. Picard, 84, formerly of Stockholm and Litchfield, died peacefully Tuesday, July 19, at a Van Buren nursing home.
She was born March 21, 1932, in Caribou, a daughter of the late Joshua and Rhobena (Rafford) O’Neal. She worked many years with her husband with their stores Martel Meat Plant and Yvon’s Market, Lewiston and Sabattus. Verna also worked as a billing clerk with Central Maine Medical Center and with Maine Credit Bureau, Lewiston/Auburn, for several years, positions she enjoyed.
She was an avid fisherwoman and spent many hours at her home fishing in the pond.
She is survived by two children, Barbara Rainville of Belfast and Rita Picard of Stockholm; two sisters, Geraldine LaBreck of Albion and Emma Neville of New Hampshire; one granddaughter, Deanna Gordon of Wiscasset; and two great-granddaughters, Kayla and Lindsey.
Besides her parents, Verna was predeceased by her husband, Richard L. Picard; and three siblings, Jackie O’Neal, Percy O’Neal and Mary Jelly.
