1929 – 2016

FARMINGTON — Marjorie E. (Gamage) Bernier, 87, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 2, 1929, to Weston and Estelle Gamage in Boothbay Harbor at St. Andrews Hospital. Marge was a busy soul throughout her life, raising her children, Neil, Lisa and Selina as a single mom. Her career included 30-plus years at Knowlton & McLeary’s Print Shop, waitressing, bartending, and as a beautician for many friends and neighbors.

She was active in her community and belonged to the American Legion Flag & Emblem Club, where she won awards for flag folding. She also volunteered for the Special Olympics and was always there to help at many events and meals. One of her fondest memories was playing Shirley Temple in a fundraising show for the Elks Lodge & Emblem Club. She had a great sense of humor right up to the end.

She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Robert Bernier; three children, Neil Compton and his wife, Jamie, Lisa Saunders and her husband, Rick, Selina Lufkin and her husband, Mike; three grandchildren, Jessica Gwaltney and her husband, Erick, Adam and Austin Lufkin; and one step-granddaughter, Emily Greene.

She was predeceased by her six siblings, Buster, Carolyn, Elizabeth, Gaylen, Arthur and Jean and is now having a great reunion with all of them. Condolences may sent for the family at www.adamsmcfarlne.com.
