There are many great reasons to vote for ranked-choice voting. Here are a couple of mine.

For those who are registered voters who wholeheartedly believe in democracy (I sure hope so), my trusty old dog-eared Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines democracy as “rule of the majority” and majority as “a number greater than half of the total.”

Today, Maine voters elect officials by a plurality, which means “the greatest number of votes when not a majority.” (Thank you, trusty dictionary, for clearing that up.)

Many folks adamantly believe that one person should have one vote. Those folks are oftentimes also seen at run-off election precinct locations (voting a second time for a candidate). The good news is that ranked choice voting would not prevent anyone from voting for just one candidate.

I am very proud to live in a state that consistently has one of the best voter turnouts in the nation, and I hope the majority will come out this coming November and vote to put more voice in their vote.
