1941 – 2016

LEWISTON — Bonnie Ann MacDonald, 75, a former resident of Bowdoin passed away peacefully in the company of family and friends Tuesday, Sept. 27, at d’Youville Pavillion, Lewiston, following a long illness.

She was born July 25, 1941, in Ellsworth, the daughter of Louis G. and Blanche E. (Willett) Rancourt.

Bonnie grew up in Lewiston, attended St. Joseph’s school and was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1959.

In 1960, Bonnie married Gerald H. Doyer. Together they had one son, Douglas. They were married for 24 years.

In 1990, Bonnie married John H. MacDonald of Bowdoinham. Together, they built a new home and lived happily for 18 years, until his passing in 2007. She was a parishoner of St. John’s Church, Brunswick.

Bonnie was employed at Gil Poliquin Hearing and Optical Center in Lewiston. As a professional secretary, always taking great pride and special interest in her work and all of her clients. She retired in 2015 after 38 years of service.

Bonnie was also a proud member and bookeeper of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Lewiston for many years.

Bonnie was a fantastic mother and grandmother. Her favorite holiday was Christmas Eve, celebrating with family and friends at her home. She also really loved spending time with her best friend of over 60 years, Connie Therriault.

Her hobbies included going to beano, going to the casino, watching Dancing with the Stars (especially Max), and shopping for fancy shoes.

Her five wonderful grandchildren were of utmost importance to her. She took pride in being there for them from childhood through adulthood, marveling at all of their accomplishments.

Survivors include her son, Douglas and wife, Roxanne Doyer of Mechanic Falls; daughter, Deborah (MacDonald) Duncan and husband, Tom Duncan, of Georgetown, PEI, Canada; her grandchildren, Alexandra, Olivia, and Victoria Doyer, John and Morgan Duncan;, many wonderful in-laws, neices, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family coworkers and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; many relatives; and her husband, John MacDonald.
