NAPLES — A pair of goals in the first half was sufficient for Poland on Friday, allowing them to post a 2-0 late-season field hockey win over Lake Region.

Brianna Doucette and Lexi Morey each scored for the Knights (6-5-1) in a solid effort. Higera Nawass also contributed with a pair of assists.

Ashton Sturtevant made five saves to notch the shutout, while Maddie Nelson deflected three shots for the struggling Lakers (0-10-1).

Dirigo 5, Telstar 0

DIXFIELD — Sophia Jacques registered a hat trick as Dirigo overwhelmed Telstar, 5-0, in a MVC field hockey matchup Friday.

Jacques netted her first two goals in the first frame, while Ashley Perreault also tallied before the break. Alyssa McTyre added a goal in the second half to bolster Jacques’ third tally and complete the scoring.

Morgan Morrow needed only a pair of saves to notch the shutout, while Perry Morton turned aside 11 shots between the posts for Telstar.

Spruce Mountain 3, Morse 0

JAY — Senior forward Alex Bessey scored two goals and an assist as Spruce Mountain rose to a 3-0 triumph over Morse in KVAC field hockey action Friday afternoon.

The Phoenix (8-2) took a 2-0 lead into the midpoint. Bessey scored the first goal at 19:39 and finished the scoring with 29 seconds remaining in regulation for Spruce Mountain.

Goalie Rebecca Click made four saves for the Shipbuilders (3-6-1), while goalie Sydney Shaffer didn’t need to peel a single one back to earn the win in net for Spruce Mountain.

Boys’ soccer

Buckfield 6, Vinalhaven 1

BUCKFIELD — Zack Grover led a group of five players to register goals as Buckfield overpowered Vinalhaven 6-1 in a boys’ soccer tilt Friday afternoon.

Hunter Foss, Noah Wiley, Ethan Jackson and Kyle Walters also tallied for the Bucks (6-1-1) to complete the scoring. Matt Beaucage also contributed with a pair of assists, while Walters also added an assist. Keatan Lear scored the lone goal for Vinalhaven. 

Jake Kraske made 14 saves for Buckfield, while Isles Blackington deflected 12 shots for Vinalhaven (3-4). 

Girls’ soccer

Nokomis 7, Spruce Mountain 3

JAY — Britney Bubar scored four goals to power Nokomis to a 7-3 victory over Spruce Mountain in girls’ soccer action Friday afternoon.

The Warriors didn’t turn up the tempo until the second half when they collected six goals. Lacey MacDonale scored a pair for Nokomis.

Goalie Calley Baker made 17 saves for Spruce Mountain, while goalie Aren Herrick turned away four to earn the win in net for Nokomis.

Hanna St.Pierre scored all three of the Phoenix goals in the losing effort.

Lisbon 2, Hall-Dale 0

FARMINGDALE — Lisbon lit the boards with a single goal in each half, enough to give them a crisp and clean 2-0 win over Hall-Dale in a girls’ soccer tilt Friday. 

Senior midfielder Kipri Steele converted a pass from Carly Drischler to kick off scoring in the first half. Freshman athlete Siara Martin tallied the Greyhounds’ (6-1-2) second goal, the first of her varsity career. 

Ali Sult made 11 saves to record her fourth shutout of 2016, while Maggie Gross deflected five shots for the Bulldogs (3-6-1). 

Bangor 1, Mt. Blue 0

FARMINGTON — Megan Conner converted a pass from Eliza Jansujwicz just 2:28 into the second half to give Bangor a 1-0 girls’ soccer win over Mt. Blue. 

Paige Cadorette stopped all five shots fired in her direction to notch the shutout, while Addie Schanz turned aside an impressive 24 shots for the Cougars (2-6-1).

The two squads went scoreless in the first half, failing to capitalize on chances to light the board.  

Buckfield 6, Vinalhaven 0

BUCKFIELD — Julia Dow registered a hat trick Friday to propel Buckfield to a 6-0 win over Vinalhaven, completing a sweep of both girls’ and boys’ soccer matchups. 

Kali Litchfield chipped in for the Bucks (6-2) with two goals, while Katy Henderson also tallied. 

Rachel Warren needed only three saves to preserve the shutout, while Marina Davis rejected 15 shots between the posts for Vinalhaven (4-3). 

Women’s soccer

Unity 4, CMCC 0

UNITY — Devon Funt and Jordan Baker scored two goals each as Unity College blanked Central Maine Community College 4-0 in women’s soccer action Friday afternoon.

The Rams (4-1-1) scored two goals in the first half from Funt, and another pair in the second half by Baker.

The Mustangs (1-7) struggled on offense as they were outshot 20-3 in the contest.

Goalie Chantel Camber made 16 saves for Central Maine Community College, while goalkeeper Sarah Cantwell prevented three to earn the win in net for Unity College.

Men’s soccer

Unity 2, CMCC 1

UNITY — Will Desmaris and Jacob Cyr scored first half goals to lead Unity to a 2-1 victory over Central Maine Community College in men’s soccer action Friday afternoon.

The Rams (2-4-1) pulled out with two quick goals in the first half.

The Mustangs (1-7) responded in the second half when junior midfielder Brandon Morissette closed the gap to within one. But Unity College shored up their defense down the stretch.

Goalies Zach Lowe and Austin Wing combined for 13 saves for Central Maine Community College, while goalkeeper Derrick Bates fended off 10 to earn the win in net for Unity College.
