AUBURN — Three teams of technicians from Unitil spent Thursday morning investigating multiple reports of a gas smell around the city but found nothing.

Spokesman Alec O’Meara said the first reports of an outside gas smell came in at 9:15 a.m.

“We’ve been to a couple locations already,” he said. “We’ve cleared those locations, meaning we did not actually get natural gas odor levels of any kind. We’re moving from spot to spot.”

He said there was a question as to whether the smell was related to natural gas or something like a propane truck driving down the street and spreading the smell.

No gas readings or leaks were detected.

He encouraged people who detect the odor of gas to either call 911 or Unitil’s gas hotline at 1-866-900-4460.
