CARATUNK — More than 100 Boy Scouts from all over the state gathered for the Boy Scout Fall Camporee at Adventure Bound on Oct. 1.

Scouts spent the weekend challenging themselves with white-water rafting, hiking a 5-mile section of the Appalachian Trail, rock-climbing, playing sports, using the indoor climbing wall, learning about nature and visiting scenic spots such as Moxie Falls.

“This was a great camporee for our Scouts,” Troop 546 Scoutmaster Kevin Gurney said. “There was so much to do and the Scouts had a wealth of choices.”

Scouts donned wetsuits to ride the rapids of the Kennebec River. Scouts in Augusta met thru-hikers on the Appalachian Trail who had begun their journey in April in Georgia and were close to their goal of reaching Mount Katahdin.

Scouts who stayed closer to camp learned about nature, saw animal tracks and enjoyed sports and swimming.
