LEWISTON — A 19-year-old Lewiston man denied in court Friday that he stabbed a teenager multiple times on July 4.
Kamari Solomon of 308 Bates St. pleaded not guilty to elevated aggravated assault and was returned to jail on $5,000 cash bail.
Solomon was indicted by an Androscoggin County grand jury earlier in the week on the felony charge. If convicted, he could be sentenced up to 30 years in prison. He also was charged with aggravated assault, which is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
At noon on July 4, police went to the area of 129 Pierce St. where they found Mouamed Mouamed of Lewiston stabbed multiple times in his lower abdomen and arms. He underwent surgery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and was eventually released.
Police identified Solomon as the suspect. They recovered a knife in bushes near 146 Pierce St., according to a police report.
